But how cruel is this border life! - Original watercolor

This piece is titled "But how cruel is this border life?" which was cut from a beat-up Zane Gray novel from the 1950s.  The folio is from the 1930s and the paper the watercolor is painted on is from a farm ledger from 1901.  

From my ongoing Photo Folio series.  I find antique photograph folios from thrift and antique stores and paint watercolors to replace the photos in them.  I use antique paper as a substrate and often include a saying cut from an antique book.  The photos are collected and kept until I have a decent amount, they are then sold on eBay, I'd never toss an antique photo.

This is a one-of-a-kind original painting and assemblage. 

Piece measures 7.25" tall by 5.5" wide when standing and 3.5" deep at the bottom.  Blemishes, creases, discoloration, and reinforced hinges are historic inclusions.
